Advent calendars and other forms of counting down to Christmas Eve have gotten quite elaborate…and even more adult…over the years. Simple cardboard trays containing daily waxy (but delicious) chocolates have given way to modern boxes containing surprise Legos, socks, shiny rocks & crystals, or even wine or whiskey. But what if we told you the best things to treat yourself to every day in December aren’t things at all, but experiences?

Anticipating Christmas with your partner can help you grow closer together and create new love rituals. This December, try counting down to Christmas Eve by just doing the one simple activity listed each day…together. These little suggestions will help you connect as a couple during the chaotic holiday season, and give you fun new ideas for how to spice up more than just your gingerbread.

st: Start an appreciation jar, gratitude journal, or interactive couple’s journal. Make a habit to write a little something in it each day this month so you both get little written daily surprises in addition to these great activities.

nd: Get something sweet for your sweetheart. Pick up their favorite candy or chocolate bar when you’re on your way home from work or out erranding.

rd: Make something together. Whether you choose gingerbread house kits, paintable ceramic Christmas ornaments, or a fun popcorn garland for your tree, just have fun with some classic holiday crafts.

th: Find some mistletoe out and about somewhere, or hang your own. Kiss under it. Remember…if it’s in your own house, you have to kiss every time you wind up underneath it together, and that doesn’t seem like a bad thing!

th: If you’re anything like me and get JUST the “Five golden rings” line of that dang song stuck in your head, honor the earworm by treating yourself to a luxurious C-ring. You’ll be singing everything but Christmas songs with this little number enhancing your orgasms as a couple!

th: Is the weather right for a snowball fight? Make it happen! If not, a pillow fight will have to do…and will probably land you both in bed ready to get up to more merry mischief!

th: Is your Christmas tree up? If not, put it up! If so, take a few minutes to locate or add ornaments that you can share stories about…one from each of your childhoods, and one you’ve gotten together. Talk about the special memories they bring up.

th: Take another walk down memory lane together. Either go through old family photos or watch old home videos from the holidays of your childhood and talk about all the good memories (and embarrassing moments) they make you think of!

th: Prop up your camera or phone in the bedroom and make your own much more adult home video, if you get my drift. Extra points for creative costuming involving sexy holiday lingerie or men’s wear, and winding up in nothing but Santa caps.

th: Host a group game night with all your favorite party games. Having everyone bring a snack or a drink to share makes it a lot less work on your end. After everyone goes home, have your own private game night with a sexy Christmas game just for the two of you.

th: Recreate your first date, right down to where you went, what you ate, and even what you wore, if possible (and if you remember). If your meeting place is no longer in business, go wherever you think you’d want to go on a first date now!

th: Color together. How family-friendly (or not) the coloring book is is completely up to you! 😉

th: There’s nothing more romantic & straight out of a Hallmark movie than ice skating together. Go on a (preferably outdoor) ice skating date, then find new ways to warm each other up when you get home.

th: Spice up your sexy time with a little luck. Scratch off some sex scratcher lotto tickets and enjoy the sensual surprises they suggest.

th: Take an outdoor winter nature walk by the light of the full moon.

th: Stay indoors tonight and get cozy. Put on some warm loungewear or a cute but comfy romper and do a puzzle together with a roaring fireplace (or the YouTube equivalent) in the background.

th: Go to bed early and snuggle close under the covers. See what that leads to. It might be amazing hot sex, or it might be passing out by 9pm if you’re both exhausted. Either one is okay and is exactly what you needed!

th: Time for making spirits bright…literally and figuratively. Have a home mixology session (or take a class) where you each create a seasonally-inspired cocktail or mocktail, then sip them together.

th: The big day will be here before you know it! Have a gift wrapping party. It’s always easier with an extra set of hands when you need it, and someone to laugh with. Sneak in a little something for your lover that they can unwrap…and have fun with…immediately.

th: All that gift wrapping is hard on the body. Exchange sensual massages with a warm massage oil candle or a smooth silicone glide that can double as lube. After you’ve worked out the knots in any tight spots, don’t forget to locate all those pleasure points. Top things off with a little teasing using a perfectly elf-sized wand massager.

st: Dim the lights. Bonus if the room is lit by the Christmas lights only. Hold each other close and dance to your wedding first dance song or any other love song that’s special to you as a couple.

nd: Drive around your local neighborhoods to look at the Christmas lights. Pack some thermoses of hot cocoa, tea, or mulled cider, and listen to your favorite Christmas tunes in the car.

rd: There’s nothing better to do the night before Christmas Eve than a holiday movie marathon. Put on a few childhood favorites or comedic new releases and just relax and enjoy. Don’t forget the popcorn and the hot cocoa with marshmallows & candy cane stirrers.

th:

The night you’ve been counting down ’til has finally arrived. While the evening may need to look quite different depending on whether you’ve got kids or not or have family festivities to attend, this idea is fairly adaptable. I love a Christmas Eve book exchange. You both buy a book for each other and wrap it, and you both get to open that one gift tonight. Then stay in your PJs and read and relax…perhaps until you go check out a different book in bed?
